On May 29, the Financial Times reported that, according to insiders, the United States Department of Commerce has directed the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) group—which comprises Cadence, Synopsys, and Siemens EDA—to halt the provision of technology to China. This directive was communicated in the form of a letter issued by the export control agency, though it remains uncertain whether all US EDA companies have received it. The objective of this measure is to hinder China's capacity to develop state-of-the-art artificial intelligence chips, signaling a major new initiative by the US government in this domain.
