On May 26, it was announced that the 56th plenary session of WP4B, the satellite research group under the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Bureau, had successfully concluded in Shanghai from April 30 to May 6. At this meeting, the Detailed Specification of 5G Satellite Radio Interface Technology, jointly developed by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology in collaboration with CITIC Mobile Communication Technology Co., Ltd. and China Telecom Co., Ltd., was approved. This specification outlines the critical features and parameters of 5G satellite radio interface technology, designates 3GPP NTN as the sole technical standard for 5G satellite communications, and enhances the 5G standard system. This milestone will expedite the advancement of integrated space-ground satellite communication technology, marking a significant step forward in the ITU-R 5G satellite standards series, which is set to be submitted to SG4 for review and subsequent public release.
