From May 15th to 18th, the 4th National Metamaterials Conference convened in Shenzhen, where the Top Ten Annual Advances in Chinese Metamaterials were announced. Among the distinguished selections was the "Gate-Controlled 2D Electron Gas Digitally-Coded Metasurface for Terahertz High-Speed Modulation," a collaborative effort between Professor Zhang Yaxin and Professor Yang Ziqiang's team at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Academician Cui Tiejun's team at Southeast University, and Researcher Feng Zhihong's team from the 13th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation. This pioneering technology seamlessly integrates HEMT heterojunction two-dimensional electron gas, dynamic metasurface electromagnetic resonance, and gate-controlled digital coding circuits, enabling sub-nanosecond terahertz beam state switching. As a result, a high-precision transparent A-reflection dual-mode terahertz passive phased array beam scanning device has been developed, heralding immense potential for 6G/B6G application scenarios.
