In a groundbreaking experiment, the ALICE collaboration at CERN has, for the first time, systematically observed the transient conversion of lead atomic nuclei into gold atomic nuclei through collisions of lead ion beams at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). While this process is fleeting and resource-intensive, it significantly contributes to refining particle acceleration experiments. The groundbreaking findings have been published in Physical Review Letters.
