On May 15, the Indian Cabinet gave the green light to a $435 million joint venture chip factory project between HCL and Foxconn in Uttar Pradesh. This facility will manufacture display driver chips for a range of devices, including mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, and personal computers, with a monthly production capacity of 20,000 wafers, translating to 36 million chips. This initiative signifies a pivotal advancement for India in the realm of chip manufacturing, aiming to decrease external dependencies and foster the growth of the electronics industry.
