The Trump administration intends to loosen drinking water regulations originally enacted to safeguard Americans from 'forever chemicals' (PFAS), which have been linked to serious health issues such as cancer, reproductive risks, and liver damage. Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) set the first legally enforceable federal drinking water standards for PFAS levels. Nevertheless, the EPA recently announced its decision to weaken these standards, eliminating the filtration requirement for certain PFAS and postponing the implementation of filtration for other PFAS by two years. This action has provoked widespread concern among environmental groups and the general public.
