The Chinese X86 processor giant, Hygon, has recently unveiled the roadmap for its flagship processor, the C86-5G. Boasting an impressive 128 physical cores, the C86-5G employs advanced four-way Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) technology, allowing each core to manage four threads concurrently, resulting in a total of 512 threads. This innovative design surpasses the conventional dual-way SMT architecture, setting a new benchmark in performance. Compared to its predecessor, the C86-4G, the C86-5G doubles the core count and quadruples the thread count, while also achieving an impressive over 17% increase in Instructions Per Cycle (IPC). Additionally, the C86-5G supports the advanced AVX-512 instruction set and offers 16-channel DDR5-5600 memory, with a capacity of up to 1TB. In terms of connectivity, the C86-5G is fully compatible with the Compute Express Link 2.0 (CXL 2.0) standard, ensuring seamless integration with modern data center infrastructures.
