Samsung Electronics is expediting the evolution of its DRAM process technology, intending to gradually discontinue the production of DDR4 memory modules that rely on the outdated 1y nm process. This includes SODIMM and UDIMM products with capacities of 8GB and 16GB. The last order deadline for these products is set for the first half of June 2023, with final deliveries expected by December 10, 2025. Furthermore, Samsung has already halted the production of DDR3 memory and is reallocating its production lines to more advanced offerings like DDR5 and HBM. By the middle of this year, the production capacity for 1y nm DDR4 will dwindle to under 10%, and it is anticipated that 1z nm DDR4 will cease production in 2027.
