The Ministry of Employment and Labor of South Korea has recently granted Samsung Electronics' Semiconductor System Department a special exemption, permitting its R&D personnel to work up to 64 hours per week (equivalent to 12.8 hours daily, five days a week) for the next three months. Following this period, the working hours will be adjusted to 60 hours weekly for another three months. Prior to this change, South Korean law mandated that the maximum weekly working hours should not exceed 52 hours. This exemption is aligned with the newly revised Labor Standards Act, which authorizes government-certified semiconductor R&D enterprises to apply for extended overtime limits.
