Google intends to appeal the adverse ruling handed down by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) in its monopoly case. Recently, US District Judge Leonie Brinkema determined that Google had violated antitrust laws by strategically acquiring and sustaining a monopoly in the publisher ad server and ad exchange markets. While the judge did not find that Google's advertiser tools or its acquisitions of DoubleClick and AdMeld were anti-competitive, she concluded that Google's publisher tools engaged in monopolistic practices. This decision represents a significant setback for Google and could potentially open the door for US antitrust prosecutors to pursue the separation of its advertising products.
