Shi Yonghong, Vice President of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, emphasized that the US has granted tariff exemptions on certain Chinese goods due to the scarcity of these industries within its borders, with China accounting for 70% to 80% of global production capacity in these sectors. By 2024, the share of mobile phones imported by the US from China is projected to reach a substantial 82.1%. While the proportion of laptops imported from China has declined, it still remains significant at 73%. Should tariff exemptions not be extended, these two products could face a shortage in the US market, posing potential disruptions to consumer availability.
