A recently disclosed document dated April 9, 2025, sheds light on the latest developments concerning the export of H20 chips. The United States government has informed NVIDIA that it must secure an export license for the shipment of its H20 integrated circuits, along with any other circuits that match the H20's memory bandwidth, interconnect bandwidth, or a combination of these specifications, destined for China (inclusive of Hong Kong and Macao), D-5 countries, or companies registered in these regions with their ultimate parent companies located in these specified areas. This measure aims to preclude these products from being utilized or diverted for supercomputing purposes in China. Furthermore, the US government has emphasized that this licensing requirement will remain in effect indefinitely. This decision significantly affects NVIDIA, with anticipated additional costs amounting to approximately $5.5 billion in the first quarter of its fiscal year 2026, placing a considerable burden on the company.
