SoftBank Group Corp. is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire chip designer Ampere Computing LLC in a deal potentially valued at approximately $6.5 billion, inclusive of debt. The announcement of this transaction is anticipated within the coming weeks, though there remains a risk of delays or the deal collapsing. Prior to this, in 2021, Ampere was valued at over $8 billion in a proposed minority investment by Japan's SoftBank. However, the intensifying competition within the chip market, where numerous major tech firms are racing to develop similar products, may have influenced the current valuation of the deal. Ampere has developed a series of server processors based on the Arm instruction set architecture, exerting a notable influence within the industry.
