AMD and Google have recently collaborated to announce a significant microcode vulnerability, CVE-2024-56161, affecting AMD Zen series CPUs. This vulnerability specifically impacts EPYC CPUs utilized in server and enterprise-level platforms, encompassing the Zen 1 through Zen 4 series. The concern arises as the vulnerability has the potential to disable the SEV (Secure Encrypted Virtualization)-based Confidential Guest protection feature, thereby posing a security risk to EPYC CPUs within the 7001 to 9004 series.
