China Telecom Satellite Company, in partnership with Shanghai Qingshen Technology Development Co., Ltd., has successfully executed China's maiden Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite polar 4/5G communication test at an Antarctic research station. Leveraging the "Smart Sky Network" solution proposed by Tsinghua University, this groundbreaking test aims to establish a global broadband satellite network. During the scientific expedition, data, text messages, voice, and video services were transmitted via MEO satellites, with test results revealing speeds surpassing 100Mbps and a latency of approximately 300ms. Users can seamlessly connect to the terrestrial network by simply accessing China Telecom's 4/5G base stations through mobile terminals. This test not only validates the dependability of MEO satellites in polar regions but also presents a viable satellite communication solution for high-latitude areas and regions worldwide lacking terrestrial network coverage. China Telecom affirmed its commitment to furthering technological research and development, as well as application innovation, in the realm of satellite-terrestrial integrated communications in the future.
