GlobalFoundries has unveiled a significant investment of $575 million to establish a state-of-the-art packaging and photonics center in Malta, New York. Additionally, the company plans to allocate an extra $186 million towards research and development over the next decade. The US federal government and the state of New York are contributing $75 million and $20 million, respectively, in financial support. The new center will concentrate on advanced packaging, assembly, and testing of silicon photonics platforms, offering comprehensive solutions tailored for delicate industries and bolstering production capabilities for 3D and heterogeneous integration packaging and testing.
