At the SEMICON Japan 2024 exhibition, Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Rapidus, in partnership with IBM, showcased a prototype wafer featuring jointly developed 2nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistors. This milestone signifies a substantial leap forward in their collaborative efforts in advanced process technology. Despite notable advancements in technology validation, Rapidus continues to grapple with the challenges associated with commercial mass production. Recently, Rapidus has secured Japan's first Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machine intended for mass production, and the company intends to commence local trial production at its fabrication facility in Chitose, Hokkaido. This initiative aims to accelerate the commercialization of cutting-edge semiconductor technology.
