TSMC Chairman and CEO Wei Zhejia disclosed that due to compliance issues, local construction regulations, and extensive licensing requirements in the United States, TSMC's new plant in the US is unlikely to adopt the latest chip technology before its Taiwan facility. He noted that the construction timeline for the Arizona plant is approximately twice as long as that of its Taiwan counterpart, and every stage necessitates obtaining licenses, with approval times at least double those in Taiwan. Wei Zhejia emphasized that given the hurdles in boosting local chip manufacturing capabilities in the US, it is challenging for TSMC to deploy the latest technology in the US ahead of Taiwan.
