PetroChina has announced the successful grid connection of a 1.3-gigawatt PV project on the northern fringes of the Taklimakan Desert on the 15th. This milestone marks the culmination of the first 1-gigawatt integrated PV project on the northern edge of the Tarim Basin, setting a new benchmark for harnessing solar power to combat desertification. Situated in the Shangku High-tech Zone of Korla City, Xinjiang, the project boasts a total installed capacity of 1.3 gigawatts and spans an area of 35,000 mu. It is projected to generate 2.1 billion kWh of electricity annually, displacing 620,000 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.61 million tonnes.
