The third session of the 14th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress has commenced, with Governor Wang Weizhong presenting the government work report. According to the report, Guangdong's GDP is anticipated to surpass 14 trillion yuan in 2024, maintaining its national lead for an unprecedented 36 consecutive years. Total import and export volume reached 9 trillion yuan, marking a 9.8% year-on-year increase and securing the province's top position nationwide for 39 straight years. Industrial enterprises above a specified size saw their added value rise by 4.2%, with the total number of such enterprises approximating 74,000. Additionally, the local general public budget revenue hit 1.35 trillion yuan, continuing its national lead for 34 years running.
Looking ahead to 2025, the report outlines ambitious plans. Guangdong's R&D expenditure is projected to reach approximately 510 billion yuan, reflecting an R&D investment intensity of 3.6%. The number of high-tech enterprises is set to climb to about 77,000, ensuring that the province's regional innovation capability remains atop the national rankings for the eighth consecutive year. In terms of industrial development, the report emphasizes further increasing the proportion of added value from advanced manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing. Notably, production of new energy vehicles, industrial robots, smartphones, and integrated circuits is also expected to surge significantly.
