On January 15, 2025, Reuters reported that a landmark lawsuit filed against Apple and Amazon in the UK had been dismissed by the court. The lawsuit, initiated by consumer law expert Christine Liffar, purported to represent approximately 36 million UK consumers who had purchased Apple or Beats products. It alleged that the two tech giants had conspired to exclude dealers of Apple's new products from the Amazon platform. Specifically, Liffar contended that Apple and Amazon had reached an agreement in 2018, which barred dealers of Apple and Beats branded products from accessing the Amazon UK market. Nonetheless, both Apple and Amazon vehemently denied these allegations and urged the court to dismiss the case. Ultimately, the tribunal decided that Liffar had failed to establish sufficient independence or credibility in her third-party funded litigation to represent the plaintiff group, effectively bringing the case to a halt.
