Imagination Technology Pivots Away from RISC-V Processor Development, Concentrating Solely on GPU and AI Advancements

The UK-based Imagination Technology has announced a strategic shift, ceasing development of RISC-V processors to concentrate fully on GPU and AI products. This move aims to enhance the company's investments in graphics, AI, and edge computing. Imagination affirms that this transformation will propel its business forward, while maintaining its commitment to the RISC-V ecosystem. To this end, the company has licensed its graphics technology to China's RISC-V International Open Source Laboratory (RIOS Lab). Previously, Imagination had launched several RISC-V CPU series, marking a notable departure from its previous ownership of MIPS architecture CPUs and subsequent shift towards RISC-V.
