On November 5, the Taiwan Weighted Index closed down 3.2% at 41,574.72 points, marking a new low in over three months, as falling share prices of major chipmakers weighed on the market. A landslide victory for the Democrats in the U.S. midterm elections has further clouded the outlook for AI regulation. BNP Paribas analyst William Bratton noted that while the near-term impact on AI-related capital expenditure remains unclear, investors are clearly concerned and believe that tech companies' future earnings forecasts may be overly optimistic in this environment. Taiwanese semiconductor companies, closely tied to the investment cycles of U.S. tech giants, are particularly vulnerable to such shocks. Among individual stocks, TSMC fell 0.9%, Hon Hai dropped 2.1%, MediaTek plunged 6.9%, and Unimicron tumbled 9.9%.
