In recent months, NVIDIA has introduced a new global requirement for its cloud computing customers: new contracts stipulate that the proportion of data centers from mainland Chinese customers must be reduced to below 50%, meaning at least 51% of services must be directed to non-mainland customers. Existing contracts remain unaffected. The guidance was communicated verbally by sales and regional teams, without written notice. Affected by U.S. export restrictions on NVIDIA's advanced chips, mainland tech companies are grappling with computing power shortages, and NVIDIA's high-end chips command far higher prices in the mainland than overseas. The B300 chip is priced at US$600,000 on the international market, yet in the mainland, owing to scarcity, it can fetch as much as 18.5 million yuan (approximately US$2.8 million). Both major U.S. AI model developers OpenAI and Anthropic currently use this chip.
