At IEDM 2026, Samsung Foundry is set to unveil its second-generation 8LPU platform, known as 8LPU+. Compared to its predecessor, the 8LPU+, this platform boasts a 12% boost in performance, a 15% reduction in power consumption, an 8% decrease in logic area, and roughly a 10% shrinkage in I/O area. Additionally, it features minimized standby leakage. Opting for an EUV-free approach, the 8LPU+ leverages existing DUV production lines and is mainly geared towards automotive, robotics, and edge AI chips. According to Nintendo Patents Watch, the 8LPU+ could emerge as a viable solution for the anticipated low-cost, handheld-only "Switch 2 Lite," even though Nintendo has yet to make any official announcements regarding such models.
