Cathie Wood, the CEO of Ark Invest, recently offered her insights on the South Korean stock market, which has been experiencing a downturn due to foreign capital outflows. She posits that the withdrawal of foreign capital was not a reflection of any fundamental weakness in the South Korean market but was instead significantly swayed by algorithmic trading practices. Addressing the notable correction in South Korean semiconductor stocks, Wood remarked that the market has now reached a favorable buying phase. She elaborated that in June of this year, memory chip prices reached their zenith before declining, coinciding with the South Korean won reaching a record high against the US dollar. This confluence of falling stock prices and exchange rate dynamics precipitated a surge in automated algorithmic trading. Wood underscored that the core issue does not stem from inherent flaws within the South Korean market.
