On October 18, as per the official website of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the proposal to reconfigure the second wafer fabrication plant of JASM—a Japanese joint venture predominantly controlled by TSMC—for the production of 3-nanometer chips has been greenlit. Initially, this plant was slated to manufacture chips using 40nm, 12nm, and 6nm processes, boasting a total monthly production capacity of 63,000 wafers. Following the modification, its focus will shift to producing 3nm chips, with a monthly production capacity of 6,000 wafers. The plant is anticipated to be fully constructed and commence operations in December 2028. Concurrently, JASM's first wafer fabrication plant has also made adjustments to its production strategies.
