On October 13, the South Korean stock index experienced a sharp decline of 5%. Both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix witnessed their share prices drop by more than 5%, with expectations of a continued downward trend for the fifth consecutive trading day. Notably, SK Hynix's intraday decline widened to a significant 7%, while Samsung Electronics saw a 5.89% drop, reflecting the ongoing selling spree in the stocks of these two prominent South Korean chipmakers. Concurrently, U.S. chip stocks also took a hit in the previous trading session, with Micron Technology falling by 3.9%. The market's concerns are primarily twofold: firstly, Chinese memory manufacturers have made strides in developing new memory architectures; secondly, remarks from Broadcom's CEO likening AI stock investments to gambling have raised eyebrows. Furthermore, skepticism regarding the sustainability of the chip upcycle through 2028 and beyond has further dampened the valuations and share prices of South Korean chip manufacturers.
