On October 12, 2026, sources within the industry revealed that Samsung Electronics is broadening the application horizons of its next-generation NAND flash memory product, dubbed 'zNAND.' The tech giant is currently in the initial stages of developing three distinct types of z-NAND. Alongside the already-introduced z-NAND-O, there are also z-NAND-T and z-NAND-I in the pipeline. The z-NAND-O is tailored specifically for edge AI applications, with its prototype making its debut in August 2026. Meanwhile, the z-NAND-T is engineered to prioritize throughput, targeting high-capacity, high-performance AI data centers. On the other hand, the z-NAND-I places a strong emphasis on IOPS, making it an ideal fit for scenarios that involve frequent reading and writing of small data volumes.
