On September 29th, Yonhap News Agency reported that Samsung Electronics projects a significant surge in its wafer foundry business's customer base, expecting it to reach approximately four times the number recorded in 2017—the year the business gained independence. Noh Mi-jeong, an executive from Samsung Electronics' Wafer Foundry Business Division, revealed on the same day that the current customer count has already doubled since 2017, effectively tripling the original figure, with further growth anticipated to hit fourfold by 2029.
Samsung Electronics has outlined plans to diversify its wafer foundry business, shifting from a primary focus on mobile products to encompassing the burgeoning fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC). Notably, the HPC segment constituted a mere 5% of the business in 2017 but has since ballooned to 28%, with projections indicating a rise to a dominant 66% by 2029. Noh Mi-jeong emphasized that by 2029, HPC customers are expected to constitute over half of the total customer portfolio. Moreover, in terms of revenue composition, the HPC sector's share is anticipated to substantially surpass the 50% mark.
