On September 22, ASR Microelectronics revealed during its 2026 mid-year performance review that the development of its second-generation 5G smart SoC chip is now in its final stages, with tape-out anticipated in the first quarter of 2027. Once the chip is taped out, it will proceed to the debugging, adaptation, and customer certification phases. According to industry standards, the transition to mass production typically requires around a year. Notably, ASR Microelectronics claimed the top spot in global cellular connectivity chip shipments in 2025, securing a market share of 37.8%. In the first half of the year, the company shipped roughly 1.5 million units of its 5G eMBB chips, and it is also rolling out its 5G RedCap products across various industries.
