AMD has recently unveiled a technical white paper detailing the capabilities of its sixth-generation EPYC 9006 “Venice” server processor. This paper highlights its outstanding performance across various domains, including data centers, cloud computing, high-performance computing, and agentic AI applications. According to the white paper, the top-tier 256-core EPYC 9996 processor demonstrates a performance that is up to 2.24 times greater than that of NVIDIA's Vera platform in the SPECrate 2026 Integer benchmark. Furthermore, it outperforms Intel's Xeon 6980P by a factor of 2.37. When compared to its predecessor, the new processor exhibits an approximate 78% enhancement in performance. In targeted tests, the EPYC 9996 surpasses Intel's Xeon 6980P by roughly 2.4 to 3.7 times across various workloads. Regarding agentic AI, AMD underscores the significance of the CPU as a pivotal element of the “control plane” and introduces a rack-level performance model. This model illustrates that the EPYC Venice platform achieves an overall throughput that is approximately 3.3 to 3.4 times greater than that of NVIDIA's Vera solution. In terms of memory performance, the Venice platform boasts an overall memory bandwidth that is approximately 18% higher and a per-core bandwidth that is about 8% greater than that of the Vera platform.
