On September 18, according to industry insiders, Samsung Electronics has commenced trial production of Tesla's AI5 chip at its semiconductor foundry located in Taylor, Texas, in the United States. Initially slated for full-scale production in November, Samsung has expedited the yield verification process in response to the escalating demand for AI chips from leading tech firms. The company anticipates completing large-scale production verification by the year's end, paving the way for full-scale supply to commence in the following year. Last year, Samsung inked a substantial chip supply agreement with Tesla, valued at USD 16.5 billion. The AI5 chips manufactured in this trial run are earmarked for deployment in Tesla's vehicle models, including the Model 3 and Model Y, as well as in the Cybercab robotaxi, Optimus humanoid robot, and AI data centers. Moreover, Samsung has outlined plans to construct a second factory at the Taylor site, which is projected to become operational around 2030 and will leverage 1.4nm process technology.
