A-share Midday Market Wrap-up: Shanghai Composite Index Closes 1.04% Higher, Semiconductor Sector Sees Broad-based Gains

On the morning of September 18, the Shanghai Composite Index embarked on an upward trajectory following its opening bell, with the ChiNext Index spiking by over 2% at one point during the session. By the midday break, the Shanghai Composite Index had climbed 1.04%, the Shenzhen Component Index had advanced 1.52%, and the ChiNext Index had surged 2.11%. The semiconductor industry chain showcased robust performance, with memory chips, AI chips, and advanced packaging sectors spearheading the rally. Torrens soared to the daily limit of a 20% gain, while stocks such as Chengbang Co., Ltd., Huatian Technology, and Broadcom Integrated Circuit also hit their daily upward limits. Computing power concept stocks oscillated upwards, with Zhongdian Xinlong and Dongyi Risheng reaching their daily ceilings. The retail sector also witnessed an uptick, with Aokang International and Guofang Group sealing their daily maximum gains. The innovative drug sector was buzzing with activity, as Hongbo Medicine spiked by more than 10%. Moreover, sectors including helium gas, aerospace equipment, data security, glass substrates, OLED, and satellite internet also put up a strong showing. Conversely, sectors such as complete automobiles, glass and fiberglass, coal, shipping ports, fisheries, and crop farming encountered a downturn. The total trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges for the half-day session amounted to approximately 1.32 trillion yuan, marking an increase of about 74.3 billion yuan from the same period the previous day. Across the market, around 4,300 stocks advanced, while 800 declined.
