Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has issued a stark warning that the memory shortage crisis is set to intensify further. He first raised the alarm early last year, cautioning that memory could emerge as a critical bottleneck, though his concerns were not given due heed at the time. Now, the issue has come to the forefront, with the situation poised to deteriorate even more.
At present, the production capacity for memory is severely constrained, leading to numerous project delays due to the inadequate supply of memory components. Memory prices have surged to five to seven times their previous levels, posing significant challenges for mid- to low-priced mobile phones and laptops in securing a stable memory supply. Furthermore, power supply and cooling technologies are expected to emerge as two formidable challenges that the semiconductor industry must tackle head-on.
