The research team hailing from the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has recently achieved a remarkable feat by successfully developing a second-generation iron-based alloy substrate tailored specifically for high-temperature superconducting tapes. This innovative substrate has undergone rigorous preparation and validation processes at Shanghai Superconductor and has successfully cleared multiple rounds of testing.
In comparison to imported Hastelloy alloy substrates, this new substrate boasts substantial advantages in both mechanical and electromagnetic properties. Moreover, its raw material costs are a mere quarter of those associated with the imported counterparts. The team dedicated three years to surmounting technical hurdles and has applied for six invention patents in the process.
This milestone achievement signifies China's independent mastery of key technologies for high-end superconducting materials, effectively breaking foreign monopolies. It is poised to catalyze demonstration applications across various fields, bolstering China's international competitiveness in this domain. Furthermore, it provides robust support for the upgrading of the superconducting industry and the advancement of strategic emerging industries.
