On August 26, the latest Sustainability Report revealed that TSMC is accelerating its transition to renewable energy due to the global business expansion driven by demand for artificial intelligence and advanced chips. It is projected that by 2025, TSMC's electricity consumption will reach 28.77 billion kilowatt-hours, marking a 12.6% year-on-year increase and accounting for approximately one-tenth of Taiwan's annual electricity consumption. TSMC plans to increase the share of renewable energy in its global operational electricity consumption to 60% by 2030, up from 20.1% in 2025. Additionally, TSMC has set goals to achieve 100% renewable energy usage by 2040 and net-zero emissions by 2050.
