IBM has released its first dual-architecture mainframe processor, marking a significant milestone in its collaboration with Arm in the processor field. The processor adopts a 2nm manufacturing process and integrates 11 high-performance cores with frequencies exceeding 5.7GHz, an AI inference accelerator, an on-chip DPU, and a large-capacity cache. Its cores can natively execute both IBM Z and LinuxONE+Arm instructions. The Z and LinuxONE systems equipped with this processor enable enterprise customers to run operating systems and applications on both IBM and Arm platforms simultaneously, achieving interoperability between the Arm software ecosystem and IBM's enterprise-level capabilities, with scalability to hundreds of cores and tens of terabytes of memory.
