The Japanese government is set to allocate an extra 150 billion yen (roughly equivalent to US$944 million) to the emerging chip company Rapidus in the fiscal year 2027 budget. This move aims to bolster Rapidus's research and development endeavors as well as its mass production capabilities for 2-nanometer chips, positioning it to go head-to-head with industry behemoths like TSMC. Prior to this, the Japanese government has already made multiple rounds of financial injections into Rapidus, bringing the cumulative funding to a substantial 400 billion yen.
