In the second quarter of 2026, AMD achieved a significant milestone by capturing over 30% of the x86 client CPU market share for the first time, with a precise figure of 30.3%. This marks a notable increase compared to the same period two years ago, last year, and even the first quarter of this year, thereby further reducing the lead previously held by Intel. This growth trajectory was propelled by robust contributions from both the desktop and mobile segments. Notably, AMD's revenue share from client CPUs exceeded the 30% mark in the first quarter of this year itself.
During this quarter, shipments of both x86 and Arm processors witnessed a substantial quarter-on-quarter increase of over 10%. According to JPR data, client CPU shipments rose by 9.4% sequentially, although they experienced a slight 1.1% decline year-on-year. The primary driver behind this growth was the replenishment of OEM inventories. However, factors such as escalating memory prices and early purchases made in the previous year contributed to a sluggish retail demand.
AMD's financial performance underscored its success, with a 23% year-on-year surge in client business revenue. Sales of its Ryzen Pro processors soared by over 50% compared to the previous year, and the company successfully secured new enterprise customers. Despite AMD's anticipation of a downturn in the PC market during the latter half of the year, its stellar performance in the first half has already surpassed initial expectations.
