Currently, the price gap between enterprise-grade solid-state drives (eSSDs) and hard disk drives (HDDs) has reached an all-time high. Taking 30TB products as an example, the per-TB price of TLC-architecture SSDs is 18.6 times that of HDDs. From the third quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2026, the price of 30TB TLC enterprise-grade SSDs surged from $3,460 to $22,600, a 6.5-fold increase; while the price of HDDs with the same capacity during the same period rose only from $495 to $1,216, a 2.5-fold increase. SSDs with QLC architecture also saw significant price hikes. In terms of storage architecture costs, if 25PB capacity is entirely implemented using 30TB TLC enterprise-grade SSDs, the total three-year cost would reach as high as $51.6 million; whereas adopting a hybrid storage solution could reduce the cost to $12.86 million. However, due to tight supply in the high-capacity nearline HDD market, actual procurement prices may exceed benchmark prices. This storage market fluctuation is closely tied to the rapid development of AI technology, which has driven growth in data storage demand. Seagate is expanding the supply of high-capacity storage products, while Western Digital has also seen significant revenue growth, with its executives projecting robust HDD shipment growth from 2024 to 2028.
