Qualcomm is set to introduce two cutting-edge mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro, at its upcoming Snapdragon Tech Summit next month. Yet, in a surprising twist, a desoldered engineering sample of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro has already made its way onto the Chinese market, with a price tag of merely around 300 RMB (approximately $42). The seller boasted of having a substantial inventory on hand, even offering free shipping and negotiable pricing. However, the product listing was swiftly removed.

According to reports, this particular chip represents the inaugural revision of the LPDDR5X engineering sample, crafted using TSMC's state-of-the-art 2nm manufacturing process. The packaging date reveals that Qualcomm had a functional test chip by the close of 2025 and commenced supplying samples to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in early 2026.

Despite this early appearance, the official retail version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is anticipated to command a price exceeding $300. Factors contributing to this steep price include the exorbitant cost of TSMC's 2nm wafers and the fierce competition from AI servers vying for memory production capacity. Consequently, smartphones equipped with this flagship chip are likely to see a substantial price hike.
