On August 19, news emerged that the Rare Earth Crystal Materials R&D Center, operating under the Tianjin Branch of the Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute, has recently accomplished a pivotal technological advancement. This breakthrough came in the form of the 'Development of a Preparation Process for Ultra-Dry Anhydrous Scandium Chloride' project, culminating in the successful production of ultra-dry anhydrous scandium chloride boasting a water content below 50 parts per million. This milestone signifies that the institute has now fully grasped the synthesis technology for a comprehensive array of rare earth anhydrous halides, effectively bridging a critical gap in China's pursuit of high-end scandium-based rare earth functional materials. The ultra-dry anhydrous scandium chloride holds immense potential for widespread application in diverse fields, including laser crystals, specialized lighting solutions, radiation detection systems, fuel cells, and high-safety lithium batteries. As such, it provides indispensable material support for the advancement of China's low-altitude economy and the development of new energy systems.
