On August 18, prior to the opening bell of the US stock market, the memory chip sector experienced a notable downturn, with the extent of the declines expanding. SanDisk's shares plummeted by over 6%, while SK Hynix, Western Digital, and Seagate Technology all saw drops exceeding 5%. Micron Technology, too, wasn't spared, falling more than 4%. This sector had previously enjoyed a multi-day rally, but the current decline could be attributed to a confluence of factors, including the surging yields on global long-term government bonds, persistent inflationary pressures, and mounting concerns over AI financing.
