On August 15, the South Korean Ministry of Industry announced on Saturday the dismissal of its chief trade representative, who was in charge of US-South Korea trade negotiations, without providing specific reasons for the decision. Trade Minister Noh Han-koo, who previously held the position of South Korea's chief trade envoy, had made several trips to Washington this year. During these visits, he engaged in discussions with the US government and lawmakers on critical issues, including tariffs, semiconductor-related measures, and digital policies.

The South Korean Ministry of Industry clarified that personnel decisions regarding politically appointed officials are within the purview of the president's authority. It also reassured the public that ongoing trade affairs would proceed without disruption. As of now, no successor has been appointed to fill the vacant position.
