According to Reuters, Intel has licensed its Atom CPU series technology, including critical Register Transfer Level (RTL) code, to startup Rosaic Labs—a move considered extremely rare in the semiconductor industry. Atom is Intel's CPU series specifically designed for low-power, small-form-factor devices, operating on the x86 architecture. This licensing means Rosaic Labs will gain full access to Intel's intellectual property to build custom processors. Founded in May 2026 in Delaware, USA, Rosaic Labs is led by CEO Amarjit Gill, a long-term co-investor with Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan in multiple chip companies. Intel's licensing move is seen as a further breakthrough in its foundry strategy, potentially generating both licensing fees and wafer foundry revenue.
