Recently, a notable breakthrough in the realm of high-temperature superconducting nanowire single-photon detection was accomplished by a collaborative team. The team comprised You Lixing, Li Hao, and Zhang Xiaofu from the Superconducting Electronics Laboratory at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, along with Professor Gan Zizhao and Zhang Yan from Peking University. For the inaugural time, they successfully harnessed single-crystal magnesium diboride (MgB₂) high-temperature superconducting nanowires, eschewing the need for helium ion irradiation, to attain a saturated single-photon response. This milestone achievement disrupts the conventional dependence on helium ion irradiation in the technology of high-temperature superconducting nanowires. It facilitates a stable and saturated single-photon detection performance directly, without the necessity for ion irradiation modification. Moreover, this breakthrough paves a fresh avenue for the high-reliability, large-scale production of high-temperature superconducting single-photon detectors (HTc-SSPDs). The pertinent research findings were published on July 13.
