Samsung Electronics is consolidating its general DRAM backend production units, with the Hwaseong site at the core. Previously, the backend facilities that complemented (Note: 'complemented' is used here to convey the idea of facilities that work in tandem with or support the frontend processes) the DRAM frontend wafer fabrication in Hwaseong were scattered, which had a negative impact on production efficiency. To tackle this issue, Samsung intends to build a centralized backend production unit at the Hwaseong H1 plant, where outdated production lines have already been dismantled. This strategic move enables the repurposing of existing cleanroom space, reduces the construction timeline, and the vacated space can also be utilized for expanding production lines, thereby increasing output capacity.
