As AI applications evolve from mere model-based computing to sophisticated "AI agents" capable of autonomous planning and executing complex, multi-step tasks, the significance of Central Processing Units (CPUs) has surged, positioning them as indispensable components alongside Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). The three semiconductor giants—Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA—are intensifying their efforts, gradually establishing a tripartite equilibrium in the CPU market. The ascent of AI agents, particularly the proliferation of inference and agent-centric tasks, has markedly escalated the demand for CPUs. Although GPUs previously held sway in AI computing, the CPU-to-GPU ratio is now shifting from 1:4 to 1:8 towards a more balanced 1:1 to 1:2, underscoring the rapid expansion of the CPU market. It is anticipated that by 2030, the CPU market will surpass $220 billion, with companies such as Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA actively competing for a piece of the pie. Intel has capitalized on robust growth within its Data Center and AI Group to secure numerous long-term procurement contracts. AMD has bolstered its market presence through technological innovation and deep-rooted collaboration with TSMC. NVIDIA, meanwhile, has made its foray into the CPU market with its Vera CPU, with projected CPU business revenue set to reach $20 billion this year.
