On July 21, the three major indices of the Hong Kong stock market showed divergent performance: the Hang Seng Index edged down 0.04% to close at 25,132.29 points; the H-shares Index fell 0.25% to close at 8,360.68 points; while the Hang Seng Tech Index rose 1.32%, reclaiming the 4800 level to close at 4,814.83 points. On the market front, sectors such as semiconductors and optical communications were strongly led higher by gains in external markets, while paper stocks, non-ferrous metal stocks, and Chinese brokerage stocks warmed up in the afternoon; however, most large-cap tech and internet stocks declined, and sectors such as energy stocks, mainland bank stocks, and mainland property stocks showed weak performance.
